Thompson Springs is the project of Chicago native Matt Smith. His hazy songwriting and love of the road and unknown, has led the band on tours across oceans to Europe and New Zealand as well as through the vast expanses of America.
Their old-school approach to working the road has created endlessly listenable rock songs, just meant for a long drive. Their adventures have led to collaborations with Kurt Vile associate Rob Laakso and Wilco's Pat Sansone for their debut album, Undertones (Dropped Beauty Recordings 2020). In 2023 the band released, "Standby" (Dropped Beauty Recordings 2023), produced by Pat Keen of Humbird, and recorded live. The first outing with the full 6 piece band as well as the debut of harmonica player Ryan Suzuka. |
Press"A minutely examined and revelatory emotional upheaval, a view of a failed romance sung with meditative grace" - The New York Times "Heartbreaking and stirring" - Pitchfork "The spirit that animates much of Warren's music and philosophy [is] an enduring belief that we can be better, despite the hurt and despair we put each other and ourselves through." - NPR |
